FarFaria Review and Giveaway

Recently I had the opportunity to try out a reading app called FarFaria. Today I'm going to share a little bit about the app and give you a chance to win a free subscription!

FarFaria has a variety of reading topics to choose from including animals, classics, fairy tales, adventure, music, bed time.... You get the picture. And if you don't, here's a picture:

Each category is full of non-fiction and fiction books that can be sorted by reading level and interest.

Students can choose to read or listen to the books. Words are highlighted as they are read aloud to help with tracking.

You need to be connected to the internet to read and listen to stories. However, students can add books to their favorites, and those stories will be available even when off-line.

When you finish reading a story you have the option of making it a "Photo Finish!" My first attempt was a little off...
But I finally got the hang of it.
If I have any criticism for this app it's that the angle of the camera is off. The app is meant to be used with the tablet held landscape, but the picture takes from a portrait orientation so you have to rotate the tablet to get your face in the frame the correct way.

It may come as no surprise to you that I am obsessed with Grumpy Cat. So when I saw they had a book called "Grumpy Cat" it was the perfect photo finish for my very own grumpy kitty, Georgia.
Dakota was just too cool for the book on Volcanoes.

The final test was seeing how well my students were able to maneuver this app. I gave it to this little nugget with ZERO directions. She quickly had accessed this book from my favorites, read and listened to the story and took her very own selfie.

Other great things about this app for adults-- they have a convenient"Parents" section. After passing the age test, I was able to quickly provide feedback directly to the FarFaria peeps. And I got a response within a day. You can also provide feedback after reading a story. I asked about the possibility of adding a "search" feature, and I was assured it is in the works!

Overall, I like that this app features a wide variety of interests and reading level options, with TONS of great nonfiction. In my opinion, the FarFaria team members are super helpful and lovely to work with. If you're not the lucky winner below, it's also a good deal when compared to similar reading apps available. Good luck everyone!

  1. Karen-I love your blog, and I'm so glad you mentioned the giveaway. I'm a reading specialist, so you know I'd enjoy this. I bet I could pull them up on the smartboard too.
