Really? REALLY??

So I've mentioned a time or two that I am taking a class called Literacy Lessons. It is very similar to Reading Recovery but open to kids in grades K-3. My class meets every other week in our special reading room that has a behind the glass room for observing lessons. You feel like you are on an episode of Law and Order sitting behind the glass! Well, today was our first behind the glass demo/observation and guess who got to go first? ME. Ugh. I hate going first. I'm really confident in the class and procedures but I have horrible stage fright. So I managed to get the lesson done well, even with my Principal and Assistant Principal watching, and am just finally calming down when...

An announcement is made about a car in the parking lot with a flat tire. Guess who's car? ME. Really? Ugh. So AAA came to my rescue (and of course it is raining cats and dogs). Apparently I picked up a nail. Easy enough, that can be plugged (for free at Costco since that is where the tires were purchased). NOT SO FAST! The spare tire was flat too. Really? REALLY? So I'm thinking AAA guy must have some fancy-shmancy machine in his pickup that can fill it up. Yes he does, but guess what? It's broken.

R E A L L Y?

Of course this is the precise moment the rain doubles it's efforts and starts coming down so hard I can't see a thing. He puts the spare on and declares it should get me to the closest gas station-I'm talkin' do not pass GO, do not collect $100-close. At the gas station, I go in and ask "Is there anyone who can help me with the air pump?" And the lady's response was "You're on your own honey." Don't I know it...

So that is how I came to spend the evening soaked to the bone, on my hands and knees in a grimy gas station lot, completely ruined my leather purse, dress pants, and new shoes, and laughing my face off. This kind of stuff happens to me ALL the time. I learned a long time ago that if you can't laugh about your misfortune, it will only bring you further down. At least I will have an awesome story for writing workshop tomorrow!

PS - My shoe giveaway ends Friday at Midnight! Go enter ASAP!

  3. Love your attitude! I am hoping it is contagious and that I can catch what you have (in terms of attitudes, NOT in terms of car issues!!!!) Camille
